My paintings of Cornish coastlines are developed as a result of many hours spent walking through and observing this rich landscape...

My paintings are developed in my studio in Fowey from sketches and notes that are made ‘on location’ throughout the year and at different times of the day in all weather conditions. This intimate contact with the landscape results in a deep understanding of the many atmospheric idiosyncrasies of this breathtaking coastline.

Colours of Greece

Following my recent return from my painting trip to Skiathos in Greece I shall be finishing a series of paintings from this trip that will be for sale from Beside The Wave Gallery in Falmouth, Cornwall from Saturday 11 October 2008. They will feature a mixture of oils and watercolours painted in situ.

Skiathos is one of the Sporades group of islands, lying just off the east coast of mainland Greece. It is a compact island just 12km long and about 4km wide, blessed with large, sandy beaches which I found perfect for my latest project.

The Scilly Collection

The collection for this show was inspired by my trip to the Scillies in 2006. The weather was glorious, the flowers were out in abundance and the Scillies were the nearest thing to paradise. I returned again late October to a different place, wild winds with intermittent sunny spells. It was cold working outside but my daughter Hannah kept me supplied with hot chocolate. Whatever the conditions the Scillies never fail to inspire me, each time i return I love the islands just a little bit more. I hope this comes through in my work and people enjoy my paintings as much as I have enjoyed painting them.

The Azores Collection

In June 2007 I embarked on a new project to produce an exclusive series of paintings charting the 9th transatlantic race to the Azores hosted by The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club in Falmouth. My partner, Peter Quilter, was one of fifty or so competitors involved in the 2400 mile race which takes approximately 3 weeks. In my paintings I tried to capture the start of the 2007 race leaving Pendennis Point in Falmouth, scenes of the Azores and the ultimate finish of the race back in Falmouth. I flew out with my daughter Hannah to meet Peter in the Azores and spend time painting on the islands.

Colours, Coast & Sea

Walking The Cornish Coast - I decided to do 100 miles for each section and each show. For me it is a way to see new areas of Cornwall that I haven’t visited or painted before.
