For me it is a way to see
new areas of Cornwall that I haven't visited or painted before.
Starting at Bude and finishing this part of the walk at Padstow.
An area that I know very little about. It is a challenging
stretch of the coast. Very wild with steep and rugged cliffs,
dramatic skies and sweeping white sands of the Camel estuary.
It has been a fantastic first stage, even if the legs felt
tired.
My walk covers the entire Cornish Coastal path in approximately
100 mile stretches. Each section of the walk will provide
the inspiration and subject matter for a new series of paintings
that will he shown in a one woman exhibition and documented
in a dedicated book which will also serve as the exhibition
catalogue.
Distinctive Locations
These new collections are not intended as a day to day diary
account or to catalogue each mile of my journey, but concentrate
on specific views that are of particular interest to me.
These locations can sometimes be just cliff top views of
distant sea and sky or distinctive geographical locations
of beaches and estuaries.
Bude to Padstow
For this first section of my long term project I walked from
Bude, westwards to just the otherside of Padstow. This
is unknown territory for me, as I have always lived on
the South coast of Cornwall. In response to this new stretch
of coast my paintings have taken a new path and emanate
a freshness and vitality with clean clear hues and a wonderful
clarity of pure coastal light. Calm tones in a myriad of
blues in my interpretation of sea and sky are accompanied
by soft touches of warmer pinks and ochres in cliff top
grasses and long sandy beaches.
Padstow to Cape
Cornwall
I am now onto the next leg of my walking tour which is
approximately 80 miles taking in St. Agnes, Zenna, St.
Ives, Godrevy and then finally on to Cape Cornwall which
is where I will be spending the majority of my painting
time on the section of the walk.
Artist / Explorer
By embarking on this new artistic endeavour I am locating
myself beside many emirtent and respected artists who have
also taken on the dual role of artist/explorer. I am charting
new ground here, in this new work I hope to navigate new
ideas, it is a bold adventure.
